Keeping pets and people healthy:
Most people have some kind of pet at home that they had since they were little. With it being a dog or cat, there is usually always some type of animal in your home. I am one of those people who did and does have a pet. I actually have 2 dogs and both of them are golden doodles. My family was originally not going to get a pet because we all are allergic to fur. My mom found this type of breed online and did research on it. My mom found that the purpose of the cross breed of golden retriever and poodle was to attempt to develop guide dogs suitable for visually impaired individuals with allergies. Once my mom found that, she decided to check one out and bring me along. I did not have any allergic reactions and later found out that they have a non shedding coat. Knowing that, we got 2 of them.
Your pet is not just a pet, they are a family member. They provide amusement and companionship. Dogs for example provide you with exercise indoor and outdoor for both the pet and for you as well. According to this article, pets can decrease our blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels. With that being said, pets make people healthy.
The main point of this article was to inform us about how diseases can be transmitted to humans. Getting regular vaccinations and veterinarian care can help keep your pet healthy and keep it from transmitting infections to humans. One disease in particular that caught my eye was salmonella and this disease can be transmitted to people through pets, particularly reptiles, baby chicks, and ducklings. Knowing that diseases can be spread through pets to humans is very important because most people have pets and not getting them vaccinated can lead to unhealthy pets and humans.
All in all, getting vaccinations is very important to your health and your pets health. Healthy pets calls for healthy people.

I'm really not a dogs fan because of past experience with dogs, but I agree that pets are a family member. I have three turtles in my house and they are apart of the family and when we meet some one new we introduce the turtles too. it is important to keep pets health because they is apart of you love one and you don't want your love one to die. you said that dogs benefits people that is true but I wonder how can other pet benefits you such as turtles and lizard?
ReplyDeleteI love this post! It is so awesome that you found a dog that you are not allergic to. I also have a dog, his name is Oreo lol. I agree pets become apart of the family because i could not imagine my life without Oreo. I had him since i was a freshman in highschool and now am a sophomore in college. I did not know that about salmonella that is interesting. yes it is very important to keep up with your dog's health just as it is to keep up with your own. I am missing Oreo as i am typing this lol.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a pet at home but I found your blog helpful because I would one day like to own a pet. I did not know that salmonella can spread from animals to humans due to not having vaccinations. I do understand that your pet must have regular immunization just as well as you. Knowing the importance of being healthy for yourself and your pet will make everything much easier for your health. I'm looking into getting a dog, do you have any suggestions on what breed?
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, I really enjoyed reading your first post. I also have a dog at home, but I didn't get her till I was graduating high school in May of 2015. We made sure we vaccinated my dog at the right time because her brothers and sisters were dying from being vaccinated a little to early. I believe we waited a good amount of time because all of her brothers and sisters have died and she is the only one left. My dog is like my heart and we have to make sure we keep them healthy just as we keep ourselves healthy.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know salmonella could be spread from animals to humans, although I probably should have. I know you can get ringworm and pin worms from animals as well. I would like to see if there are any rare diseases that humans can catch from dogs that we might not think about.
ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteI love pets! I am more of a cat lover than dog, but I do want a dog in the future. I am not familiar with breeds but I do love the Alaskan Malamute. Those dogs are beautiful and a pretty penny. One of my childhood cats of 16 years just passed this summer and it was very hard on me. Pets are definitely part of the family. I remember whenever I was sick or sad, my cats came to save the day by simply nuzzling up to me and letting me know everything was going to be okay.
Thank you for your post! I am glad you are able to have pets without the worry of allergic reactions now.
My family has always had pets growing up. We always had a cat and a dog, however my parents would never let us have something smaller for some reason. Now that I am moved out, married, and living on my own I knew I had to have my own pets. I have two dogs, a husky and a tiny yorkie. I couldn't imagine my life without having a some sort of pet and I do agree that they help out your health tremendously! Great post, and I can't wait for more!
ReplyDeleteMy family has always had a pet when I was growing up in the house. Not only does having a pet have health benefits my parents also used them to teach my sisters and I responsibility. I didn't know that salmonella was transmitted through baby ducks and chick, I find that interesting.
